6 Days 5 Nights Miri & Mulu Package

Malaysia Tour Package - 6d5n Miri and Mulu

Price (p/p) from:

Gunung Mulu National Park is one of Nature's most spectacular achievements and the 'jewel in the crown' of Sarawak's expanding network of national parks.

The Park is not the easiest place to get to. A maze of rivers and floodland lie between it and the coast. The boating services up the rivers have become less than reliable. Hence, a flight in a small Fokker 50 operated by MAS Wings departing from Miri, Malaysia's oil town is the most reliable way to experience Mulu.

The yearly rainfall for the region is over 5 metres and this combined with limestone geology leads to the creation of caves of phenomenal dimensions. Although Mulu is synonymous with caves, the 'Mulu experience' is not limited to underground attractions; above ground there is plenty to see and do. The park is covered in rich primary rainforest and offers a whole range of nature-based activities. There are some excellent jungle treks and mountain hikes.

With it's rich bio-diversity, and world-famous caves, Mulu offers the adventurous traveller an exhilarating cave and rainforest experience, possibly unmatched anywhere else on Earth.

This tour also will take you to a Penan settlement, an ethnic tribe to observe their tribal lifestyle and view their handicrafts. While the Penan men hunt and gather, the Penan women would make baskets and mats to be bartered for basic needs.

Day 1

Upon arrival, you will be met by our representative at the Miri International Airport.

Go on a city tour. Visit The Grand Old Lady (Malaysia 1st Oil Well) at Canada Hill, Lian Hua San Lotus Hill Temple (largest Taoist temple in South East Asia), Miri City Fan, Miri Heritage Centre and Taman Muhibbah (local farmers market) where you can find various tropical fruits and vegetable.

Before returning to the hotel, enjoy shopping in Miri shopping district.
Day 2

Miri - Mulu National Park (B/L/D)

After breakfast, we proceed to the airport for our flight to Mulu, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Upon arrival, meet and greet by our friendly representative and then transferred to Royal Mulu Resort for check in.

In the afternoon, we proceed to the Mulu National Park Headquarters for registration and then hike a 3km plank walk to reach Deer Cave & Lang Cave. Deer Cave is thought to be the largest cave passage in the world – it is 2 kms in length and never less than 90 metres high and wide. The main chamber is 174 metres wide and 122 metres high. It has some magnificent waterfalls tumbling through cracks in the cave. Explore Lang Cave which is a small cave but it has spectacular array of stalactites and stalagmites with patterns and shapes of colors.

After exploring the caves, we proceed to a bat observatory to observe bats flying out of caves entrances in various formation for their nightly insect feast in the evening subject to fine weather. Twelve species of bat call Deer Cave (Gua Rusa) home. This includes an estimated three million wrinkled lip bats.

Overnight at Mulu National Park.
Day 3

Mulu National Park (B/L/D)

After breakfast, we proceed to Batu Bungan Penan Settlement by longboat to observe the tribal lifestyle of the Penan community, an ethnic tribe. Traditionally nomadic, most of the 10-12,000 Penan now live in settled communities, but continue to rely on the forest for their existence. Some still live largely nomadically.

Later we continue to Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave. Wind Cave, which is part of the Clearwater Cave system, has many impressive stalactites, stalagmites and rock corals while Clearwater Cave measuring about 107km is the longest cave in Asia.

A picnic lunch will be provided while you can relax and swim at the Clearwater spring.

Dinner and overnight at Mulu National Park.
Day 4

Mulu National Park - Miri (B)

Early morning, transfer to airport for your flight back to Miri. Upon arrival, you will be met by our representative and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, meet by tour guide at hotel lobby and proceed to an Iban longhouse known as Entulang.

The ibans are the single largest tribe in Sarawak and they are traditionally live in longhouses which are actually a number of rooms linked together but sharing a common ‘ruai’ – a verandah were traditional ceremonies are preformed in the olden days. The ibans are the famed headhunters of Borneo and in some older longhouses, some of the skulls are still seen hanging along the ruai. You will have a chance to try the famous rice wine ‘tuak’ brewed locally. After tour, transfer back to hotel.

I heard that if you wanted to see monkeys or the hornbills, best time would be the 7am tour. Because my son was too naughty playing on the trip until there at 8.30am and there was no animals or birds - however the main attraction for this are actually the lovely trees. The walk to the skywalk is all on boardwalk. No torches are needed, but i recommend that you wear sneakers/shoes and not hiking boots or sandals. You need a good footing on these bridges.
